Reason Humanity Should Not Be Destroyed #10

Steven Seagal is getting his own reality TV show and he’s a for-real police officer in Louisiana.

Don’t forget that the star of Under Siege and former Mr. Kelly LeBrock is also the reincarnation of a Buddhist master. I should say something like “For The Win“ here probably.

Hey, I used to watch I’m With Busey and this sounds even better. Just when I think everything is predictable and boring in the world, something like this happens to blow my mind. Awesome.

Site of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre

It's a city park now. I didn't see any ghosts unfortunately but I did
win an autographed copy of Chicago Haunts by Ursula Bielski!

A good ghost tour (almost as good as milwaukeeghosts.com!) and a great
way to spend Friday night. Even better, the bus driver was playing Dio
when we got in!

Better view of the Hull House

The Devil Baby is supposed to be seen sometimes in the upstairs window.

Something Ghostly?

I think it's just a reflection, but other people got orbs in their
pictures. Someone in January got an image of a man crumpled at the
bottom of the stairs, that would've been awesomely terrifying!

Home of the Devil Baby!

You see any faces?

I don't. :(

Site of the Eastland Boat Tragedy

844 souls were lost here. Some people said you can see faces
underneath the water!

Sunspot on Film101

Our friends in Dane101 featured Sunspot in their Film101 podcast that just came out. They also review the new James Bond movie. Take a listen and if you do, please thank them for playing Sunspot! The direct link is here:

In other local movie news, Bruce Campbell (the star of Alien Apocalypse and Moontrap) will be at Sundance on December 3rd and I just got my tickets for the 9:30 show. The 7pm is all sold out except for two singles. But the 9:30 still has about 50 or so seats, so you should be good to buy in the next few days.

Chuck Klosterman Reviews Chinese Democracy

Chuck and G ‘n’ F’n’ R?! Caloo, Callay! It’s the most frabjous birthday present The Onion could possibly give to me.

I hope they bring Chuck in for more (if you haven’t read Fargo Rock City, (here’s a sample) you should probably leave work, get out of bed, or stop whatever you’re doing, it’s the bees fucking knees.) I know he’s not as hip as he used to be (but then again, either am I) but I still get insanely jealous if I read even just a paragraph. It’s one of those disgusting realizations that he writes the way I wish I could. Either way, it’s a good review of a pretty good album. It’s no Appetite but you can’t compete with my musical cherry-popping in fifth grade, I knew it was a winner when I heard “Welcome to the Jungle” lip-synched by Jim Carrey in The Dead Pool. Axl Rose and Dirty Harry are like Reese’s with a little extra crack.

It was just something that put me in a good mood this morning. Plus, all this news about pirates is kind of exciting too.

New Star Trek Trailer

I finally got around to watching the new Star Trek trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/) and yeah, the preview is pretty good.

Besides having a little fangasm hearing Simon Pegg do his Scotty accent, the real question is going to be how does the new guy compare to the Mighty Shat? The only thing I’ve ever seen Chris Pine in was Smokin’ Aces, which I kind of hated, so I don’t want to judge him based on that movie. The line “You’ve always wondered where you fit in in this world” (or whatever the line was to that effect) is kind of a weird question because I always assumed that Kirk really knew his place. He was confident being in charge and wasn’t afraid to go after what he wanted. It’s like in Star Trek 5 when Sabok tried to take away his pain and he wouldn’t let it go, he wanted to keep it because it helped define who he was. He knew what made him unique and he didn’t want to change a thing (except if he could time travel back to change the cheesy “row your boat” shit from the end of that movie, I’d like to think he’d be okay with that.)

Maybe the whole idea is that he needs Spock and McCoy to be his voices of reason and his guides, that without them, he’s all Id. And without him, they’re all thought and no action. I kind of wish they’d just start something after Voyager or after Nemesis, so we could see the future and not keep playing around in the past (unless they’re going to have more Jolene Blaylock, and I’m completely cool with that) That said, though, I’m finally making it through the second season of Lost and I can’t think of a better guy right now than JJ Abrams with which to trust America’s greatest science fiction franchise (I know that Star Wars fans might argue with that, but we can always say that Han and Chewie live in a science fantasy world, so it’s a different genre.) I never was big on Alias (or Felicity for that matter, I was more of a Dawson’s Creek kinda guy) but Lost is awesome (I also can’t believe that I’ve made it all this time without learning a single spoiler about the show, so it still feels exciting.)

I guess it doesn’t really matter, though, they’ve got my money. I’ll see it in the theater no matter what, just to make sure that I vote with my wallet that they keep on making Trek movies. And I have a hard time believing they’re going to screw it up too much. Hell, they completely changed the ending of The Natural and it’s still a great movie (I’ve heard that they’re changing the ending of Watchmen as well, we’ll see how that pans out.) Anyway, check out the trailer if you haven’t yet. The beginning is a little unbelievable, but it does look like there will be plenty of explosions and alien love, which is a good start.

Yes We Can... Believe in UFOs!

Obama's new transition chief is John Podesta who formerly was a leader (yes, as well as White House Chief of Staff) in the Coalition for Freedom of Information which was a project that set out to declassify Air Force UFO investigation documents.

This gives me some hope. But what I can't believe is that this guy is Chief of Staff and he doesn't know anything about it already? Along with Bill Clinton saying that he didn't think there was anything extraterrestrial about Roswell in a speech during his administration, it leads me to believe that the President might not actually be in on this, or that may be what they want us to believe! Either way, if he gets a job in the new White House, let's hope they continue the search for the truth.

blatz

So Blatz Light is only 14 more calories than Miller Lite and it's 7 dollars cheaper per case (and right now, that's 3 gallons of gas) . Plus, they spell light correctly and don't have stupid commercials about the more taste league. So I can still support local and buy cheap too.

What more can I say?

We are from Wisconsin, after all...

TAXI publishing session

I'm in a class right now where Todd & Jeff Brabec are talking about music publishing/licensing/royalties for tv, movies, video games, etc. It's a pretty complex topic and they've written a book about it to clarify for musicians.

Go Pack

Now that the election's over, we can relax and focus on what really matters, rock music and the Green Bay Packers. Here's the video for "Go Pack" which you can find on the Tailgate Tunes II CD, available online here or at any Shopko store. Thanks to everyone that helped out with the video and Madera Music for putting out the album!

You can also download a high-quality version of the video here.

Great Cuts is closed?

I've been going to that guy for three years. Any recommendations?

Monday, November 03, 2008

Thank goodness

Night Court is still on TV! 7am on channel 50, but it is there. I always thought John Larroquette was super funny (he reminds me of our friend Dan "the Legend" Concotelli) and I had kind of a crush on Markie Post back in the day too, even though she looks much better now without the mullet. I had a hard time with Richard Moll in Highlander, though, after all those years doing comedy. My only hope is that Charter doesn't do anything else stupid to my channel lineup to make it so I can't get cool shows without buying digital cable. They already took away my Star Trek TNG reruns by putting G4 out of range, but they gave me back my BET!

NASCAR Crocs?

Now I've seen it all.

Thrill the World recap

Alright.. I know I already posted the video of my Thriller dance experience, but I just uploaded a different video with better sound & camera angles, for your viewing pleasure:

Here's a cool article from The Isthmus about the Madison Zombie Lurch that occurred the same day (click the Gallery image to see all the pics from the event). It was the first lurch I have attended, and I must say it was both a bizarre and ridiculously fun flashmob experience! I recommend trying it sometime.

I posted some photos from the event that show the costumes a little better.

And finally, someone made a cool montage of all the different cities who participated in the event. Austin Texas had 881 zombies!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Oh, and let me know if you want to learn the Thriller and join me next year for Thrill the World 2009!
