Whither to party tonight?
We're working on some new songs at rehearsal tonight, but the real question is if I'm gonna go out and get wasted afterwards. It's a tough question and I'm partly undecided. Sometimes I wonder if we'd be farther along on our musical career or I'd be a more successful person in general, if partying wasn't as integral to the whole playing shows process. But partying sometimes makes nights that might be really unpleasant a lot more enjoyable.
Sometimes you're not always playing with great bands or it's not your style or you're fucking tired and you need to find something positive about the situation so you can fight the urge to go somewhere else. And you're sitting at a bar where the manager's only concern is how much booze you can sell while you're on stage and how much your crowd drinks and tips. A lot of the time, getting a buzz on helps you make the best out of that situation. I'm not complaining, you've got to love a profession that lets you drink on the job (and when the crowd's into it, they're encouraging it), but it'd be nice to play some different kinds of events, where it's completely about the musical statement we're trying to make and the commnuity we're trying to cultivate. I feel us create that onstage when we're really getting through to the audience and that's the balls. But sometimes, it's just putting on a show and jumping around to get people's fucking attention. Those nights are more difficult and are usually helped through some liquid companionship. It'd be nice to be able to create those moments when we really connect with the audience at every single show and every single performance. I know that's impossible, but I'd like to think of more ideas to be able to communicate and make that connection of our ideas and our songs with everybody who's watching. Some people just aren't ever going to like us and I'm alright with that. But I'd like to make sure they know what we're trying to say before they make that decision.
Maybe that's something to work on at rehearsal tonight. Maybe we can talk about it over a beer.

Okay motherhumpers...another post that reminds me that I still do not have any audio for the drunk night at the club I used to work at.
I think that unless your Ian from Fugazi, then maybe the boozing is okay. You seem to handle it okay.
The thing is that your a party band...Mike is a party boy, Ben is a party whore...and Wendy plays Violin.

Enough said i agree with dino part of making a fan base is to show the people you are willing to party hard, and there is never a shortage of hard partying with sunspot around
Don't sweat those times when some of the crowd isn't really into it. There are so many different personalities out there. A lot of people don't like party rock, exciting melodies, sweet harmonies, and shredding guitar. Those people, although they are insane, probably don't like Sunspot. :) Drinking definitely helps people deal with differences in personality. I bet if you got the KKK and the NAACP together and gave them a keg, they'd be cool. You could also give them Oreo's to eat as a symbol of their newly found friendship. hehe
Wow, that sounds so Billy Joel-esque...
